As the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic continue to ripple around the globe, millions live in uncertainty about their ability to provide for their families because of daily wage and labor work drying up. Any relief they receive will be temporary; most just want a chance to work and support their families. The issue however, is that they haven’t had the opportunity to learn the skills needed in today’s job markets, either for a job or for entrepreneurship. Unskilled workers experience limited career growth, often causing them to accept low-income jobs or live in poverty. Developing skills can reduce unemployment, raise wages, and boost living standards.

HHRD offers families a means to sufficiency through Skills Development trainings for those drowning in poverty. Our Skills Development Program (SDP) aims at imparting training to those in need, allowing them to stand on their own feet, and become financially stable. It empowers them to take charge of their own lives with dignity and determination.

With 22 Skills Development Centers (SDCs) in Kenya, Jordan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Azad Jammu-&-Kashmir (AJK), India, Nepal and more, HHRD has over 45,000 graduates, and lifted thousands of families out of poverty, since its inception in 2010. 

Making Dreams Come True

 Yousra, a Refugee, lives in Jordan with her blind husband and 3 children. Her husband and child were jailed for selling food to make ends meet. She joined our Tailoring Course, graduated, and received a sewing machine. She has opened her own business and is earning a living to support her family. All her children are back in school and she sends her heartfelt gratitude to our donors.

Mohamed, a SDC graduate, operates a cyber café, courtesy of business gifts awarded by HHRD, as start-up in Madogo, Kenya. With his IT skills he develops promotional materials, edits photos and videos using various softwares as per the clients desire. He has also turned his shop into a station where he also teaches those who want to learn in the field of IT. Mohamed is able to pay for his monthly bills and support his siblings from the business. 

Zahra Razaq’s from South Punjab, Pakistan watch helplessly as her mother struggled to make ends meet after her father was fired from his job. Zahra unsuccessfully applied to jobs which required computer skills. She enrolled in our SDP and took a 6-month computer training course where she ranked 1^st in class. She went on teach computers at a local school and is now successfully supporting her family.
