Water For Life
The Gift That Keeps on Giving
Support Water Projects in: Kenya, Jordan, and Pakistan
Imagine having to walk miles to get the water you need for the whole day--for the whole family. Sadly, people in many parts of the world STILL need to do just that. That's why we, students and alumni of University of Maryland, are partnering with HHRD this Ramadan, to help people in Kenya, Jordan and Pakistan get easier access to water. Let's join forces with family and friends, and share in the joy of making their lives easier!
Today 1 in 3 people people around the world lack safe drinking water. Clean water is critical for the survival of human beings, especially for the development of children.
HHRD's Water for Life program helps people gain access to clean water for daily consumption and irrigation purposes through construction and rehabilitation of water supply schemes. In 2020, over half a million lives were impacted by HHRD’s water projects. When you help a family receive water, the impact is far greater than you can imagine.
Around 50% of the population in Kenya does not have a basic water supply. While men go out to earn for the family, usually young girls help their mothers to get water. Many miss school, endure assault and suffer health risks. We can come together to support a water well for one community in Kenya that will help 50 to 70 households. Girls and their mothers will no longer have to travel long distances, saving for them time, energy, and health. Your support will provide an opportunity for an education, employment and a healthier lifestyle.
Syrians are the largest forcibly displaced population in the world with more than half of the Syrian population either fleeing the country or living in makeshift camps. This region has been marked with civil unrest, which has led to an unimaginable humanitarian crisis. There is a massive refugee population living below the poverty line. Water trucking is the only way to provide clean water to refugee families living in the desert. These trucks provide clean water every 15 days for four Syrian refugee families per year.
A total of 38.5 million people in Pakistan lack access to clean and secure drinking water causing families to use contaminated water sources. Solar water pumps are smaller sized submersible pumps, which lift water into a 500 liter water storage tank. Taps are installed on both sides of the structure allowing easy access to our beneficiaries. Gone are the days of struggling with heavy hand pumps; people of all ages can easily access water with solar water pumps.
